Michael J. Schermer, MD
Dr. Schermer received his BA and medical degree from the University of Michigan. Following his internship at the University Hospital in Ann Arbor, Michigan, Dr. Schermer spent two years in the US Public Health Service where he was Chief of Staff at the Sells Indian Hospital in Arizona. He completed his residency at UC Davis and has been practicing in Sacramento since 1976. Over 15,000 patients have entrusted their eye care to Dr. Schermer. He has performed thousands of cataract operations.
Dr. Schermer is a board certified surgeon and a diplomate of the American Academy of Ophthalmology. In 1993 he became the first eye surgeon in the Sacramento area certified by the American Board of Eye Surgery. He is a member of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery. He is a past president of MDeyePAC and he founded the ophthalmic surgery department at the Greater Sacramento Surgery Center. Dr. Schermer has participated in medical missions to Mexico, the Philippines, China and Vietnam.
Dr. Schermer's wife is a retired attorney who is an advisor to the practice. The Schermer family consists of two wonderful sons and four grandchildren.
Dr. Schermer is very much interested in improving the overall delivery of healthcare and is a member of California Physicians Alliance and Physicians for a National Health Program. He is ranked as a "leading physician" by HealthGrades.com, a Web-based service that provides report cards on doctors and medical facilities.

Beryl C. Bechtold, OD
Primary Care Optometry, Contact Lenses
& Surgical Co-Management
Dr. Bechtold received her BS degree with honors and her Doctor of Optometry degree with distinction from Pacific University in Oregon. She is therapeutics and glaucoma certified and provides a full range of optometric services that include expertise in contact lens fittings, pre-operative and post-operative care for cataract surgery and laser vision correction surgery, as well as comprehensive eye examinations. Dr. Bechtold has been working in the Sacramento area since 1980 and has been practicing in our office since 1983. She is a past president and an active member of the Sacramento Valley Optometric Society. In 1997, Dr. Bechtold was named the Society's Optometrist of the Year. Dr. Bechtold enjoys traveling with her husband, playing golf, gardening and reading.

John D. Rogers, OD
General Optometry and Surgical Co-Management
Dr. Rogers received his Bachelor of Science degree from State University of New York, New Paltz, and his Doctor of Optometry from the Illinois College of Optometry in 1979. He has been practicing Optometry in Sacramento since 1981, and he joined our practice in 2000. Dr. Rogers has extensive experience with almost all types of contact lenses, and he is an expert in determining the refractive properties of the eye. In his spare time, Dr. Rogers enjoys travel, skiing and sailing.

Christian L. Serdahl, MD
Cataract Surgeon
Dr.Serdahl is a graduate of UC Santa Cruz and UC Davis Medical School. He did his ophthalmology residency training in Sacramento at the Department of Ophthalmology and Vision Science at UC Davis. For several years, he was the Chief Ophthalmologist at the Med Clinic in Sacramento. In 2001 he left the Med Clinic for traditional private practice. In 2005 Dr. Serdahl joined Dr. Schermer in performing cataract surgeries. He has performed thousands of successful cataract operations using advanced microsurgical techniques. Dr. Serdahl serves as medical director for Vision Service Plan, is active with the community clinics of Yolo County, and is past President of the local ophthalmology society, known as the ALTA society.

Richard A. Jones, MD
Cataract Surgeon
Dr. Jones is a Board Certified Ophthalmologist. He graduated from the University of California, Davis with highest honors, then finished his medical degree at the University of Texas where he was a member of the Medical Honors Society. He served an internship at the University of Arizona and performed his residency in ophthalmology at the University of Texas. Dr Jones was twice named in “Best Doctors in Sacramento” by his peers. He is a member of the California Academy of Ophthalmology, fellow in the American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, and member of the California Medical Association and American Medical Association. Dr. Jones is a past President of the Sierra Sacramento Medical Society and has served as associate medical director for Vision Service Plan. He is an avid bicyclist and has even participated in parts of the Tour De France. He and his wife enjoy traveling, hiking and skiing.
